As kids, we lived in a vataaraha (a colony). Four houses shared one restroom. None of the houses had washrooms within. Around 20 people used one toilet. Children were passive smokers, and women were off-peak-time users. Somehow people managed. Today almost every room in a house has an attached bathroom, and interestingly, bathroom problems have also evolved. :)
